In January 2011, the Prime Minister’s Global Advisory Council for Overseas Indians discussed the concept of engaging with the younger generation of diaspora, mainly students and young professionals, with a view to understand and respond to their aspirations and expectations from the country of their origin. In pursuance of this objective Indian Missions worldwide were asked to set up an organization through which these objectives could be met.
In Malaysia, which has the second largest population of Indian diaspora across the world, the High Commission engaged with participants of Know India Programme and the beneficiaries of Indian Students Trust Fund to set up the intended organization in accordance with their expectations.
The first formal interaction of the Malaysian Youth of Indian Origin was held at the Indian Cultural Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 15th October 2011. Dr Ravindra M.P, Vice Chancellor, Manipal International University, presided as the Chief Guest and Speaker for the event.
Since then the“Malaysian Indians Youth Forum” has made progress with continuing engagement with the members on events and programmes organised by the High Commission. On 15th August, 2014, we have great pleasure in announcing the launch of a dedicated, interactive web-page for the Malaysian Youth of Indian Origin, which would keep them updated about the developments in various fields and sectors in India. They are encouraged to participate by contributing their views and give us their valuable suggestions to make the web-page experience more meaningful.
